    Jeb Boettger, The Cascade Courier|Mar 21, 2024

Last Sunday, March 17, the First Baptist Church of Cascade ordained two official elders, being Bob Griffis and Ray Castellanos. The ceremony followed the sermon on Sunday morning and was headed by Pastor Steve Boettger. The topic was under discussion in the prior weeks, seeing as there had not been any officially ordained elders in the church in several years. Bob and Ray were selected for the positions due to their commitment to following the teachings of the Bible and of Jesus Christ. The...

  • Today Is The Day Of Salvation For Those Who Believe

    Dave Carroll|Mar 14, 2024

If you have not read chapter 3 of the Gospel of John lately, I hope you will read the entire chapter today. I want to draw your attention to a few things about this wonderful teaching from Scripture. You may know it covers the talk Jesus and the Pharisee Nicodemus had at night, and a few things John the Batist had to say about Jesus. Here is that discussion as given in the New International Version of the Bible, John 3: 1-21. Now there was a Pharisee, a man named Nicodemus who was a member of the Jewish ruling council. He came to Jesus at...

  • Resurrection Reality!

    Dave Carroll|Feb 29, 2024

Though still a month away, my thoughts this morning are on the celebration of Easter. The event that forever changed the world. The event that impacts every soul that has ever lived. The first Easter was the day the disciples and enemies of the Lord Jesus Christ discovered that the tomb in which Joseph of Arimathaea and Nicodemus had laid the body of Jesus was empty. The disciples of Jesus were perplexed and sorrowful over the empty tomb. Even though Jesus had been telling them for months, that He would be rejected, crucified (he used the term...

  • Encountering Jesus

    Norm Miller, Montana Christian College|Feb 22, 2024

Amidst the backdrop of Roman subjugation, pharisaical religiosity, and in general a culture with its back toward God, Jesus Christ and his disciples ventured into the racially charged region of Samaria. Matthew 15 records the Lord’s encounter with a Syro-Phoenician woman of Canaan. She asked Jesus to heal her demonically oppressed daughter. But Jesus did not answer her. Rather, he told the disciples that he was sent only to the “lost sheep” of Israel, and it would to be good to share the children’s food with little dogs. In New Testament Greek,...

  • Turbulence & Clouds

    Awana Clubs International|Feb 22, 2024

This morning I boarded a flight, put in my earbuds and started listening to my “travel playlist.” The flight was bumpy, the clouds were thick and the view was terrible. But about halfway through the flight we got to that magical point — the one where the plane lifts so that clouds are below you and the blue sky is above you, and they meet in a perfect line on the distant horizon. The bumps disappeared, the sun shone and the words of Andrew Peterson’s Is He Worthy? played in my ears, “Do you know that all the dark won’t stop the light from...

  • Are You a Friend of Jesus?

    Stephen Kimball|Feb 15, 2024

Recently, I watched the movie: Same Kind of Different as Me. A film about friendship…true friendship. The movie documents the true story of an unlikely friendship formed between Ron, a wealthy art dealer and Denver, a volatile homeless man. It tells how God has worked through that friendship, to not only change the hearts of the two men and the community in which they lived, but to influence countless lives for the cause of Christ through their inspiring story. At one point in the movie, the fate of the relationship hangs in the balance as D...

  • The Best Emergency Service in the Universe Part 2

    Dave Carroll|Feb 1, 2024

I want to share with you some more great numbers to call when life throws you a curve. As I mentioned last time, to go out unprepared in severe winter weather, or life, is to invite disaster. The journey we call life and death requires a person to have things in order, if it is to be satisfying and successful. The Bible has some emergency numbers that are the best resource to turn to when you encounter difficulties on your journey. Here are several more to add to your phone book of life. Over the years I have worked with, ministered to and befr...

  • The Measure of a Man

    Stephen Kimball|Jan 25, 2024

It’s easy to believe that success or popularity equals “manhood”. But do not be deceived! The God who created you and knows you intimately, looks beneath the surface into the recesses of the heart, and what really matters is what he sees in there. Lose that perspective and begin to live your life with the ideals of the world, guided by your own selfish desires, and fall short of what God has planned for your life. On the other hand, live life with an undying deep desire to understand the heart of God and to walk in the wisdom of His Word and y...

  • Milk Bone Religion

    Stephen Kimball|Jan 25, 2024

Joe attends church dutifully, even volunteering as an usher once in a while. Joe’s wife, Christy, has been praying faithfully for her husband since she became a believer a couple years ago. They have two children together – six year old Collin and his three year old brother, “Little Joey”. Joe believes in God and agrees with his wife that going to church is something that they should do in order to set a good example for the kids. Besides, they have a lot of fun activities for the kids in “Children’s Church” and they even have a free kid’s ca...

  • The Best Emergency Service in the Universe

    Dave Carroll|Jan 18, 2024

Last weekend was a real Montana winter event, wasn’t it? It is amazing to be bundled up and outside when the temperatures are 30 below and the wind is blowing. But, when I do go out in that cold, I am equipped for it. To go out unprepared is to invite disaster. Driving in those conditions will reveal what systems in your car need attention. Extremely cold (and hot days) will let you know if all systems in your car are functioning properly. Good maintenance will ensure you arrive at your destination. If you break down then it’s a call to a fri...

  • Forgiveness Is The Medication For Your Soul

    Lareina Morgan|Jan 18, 2024

Matthew 6:14 For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly father will also forgive you. What do you do to cure yourself when you are physically ill? When you are sick, you will be told by your doctor to take your medication so that you can feel better. What if you don’t feel better? You need to keep taking your medication until you do feel better...Forgiveness cleanses the palate of your soul, helps to heal the deepest emotions, and it activates the Holy Spirit to redeem you from your misery if you allow Him to h...

  • Stay Alert in 2024!

    Dave Carroll|Jan 4, 2024

The following is an article I wrote for the January 8, 2015, paper. Although the names of some politicians may have changed, the deficit number and pork spending has sky-rocketed, and my main points are still valid I think. I hope that the people of this country will wake up and step up to the plate at the voting booth, and many will run for office. We are being led to slaughter by these lifetime politicians. A new year is upon us, and I hope that for you and your family it will be a good year. I hope you will grow closer together. I hope your...

  • Sanctification

    Norm Miller, Montana Christian College|Dec 28, 2023

Decades ago I heard this quip from a fellow Christian: "The nature you nurture is the one that will grow." Two verses that paraphrase this quote are Rom. 8:13 "for if you are living in accord with the flesh, you are going to die; but if by the Spirit you are putting to death the deeds of the body, you will live." And Col. 3:5, "Therefore, treat the parts of your earthly body as dead to sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and greed, which amount to idolatry." Becoming God's child began when I repented from my sins and trusted...

  • What Child Is This?

    Norm Miller, Montana Christian College|Dec 21, 2023

The Prophet Isaiah answers the question raised by the favorite Christmas Carol, “What Child is This?” He is “Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace,” (Isaiah 9.6). Each name unlocks aspects of our Messiah’s character. Wonderful means astonishing or extraordinary and describes the accomplishment of a difficult act or feat. Counselor is legal term describing an advisor in the king’s court or a planner. Some scholars combine these two words which literally mean a wonder of a counselor. Mighty God is a statement o...
