  • Assembly Theory

    Edward Martin|Jan 4, 2024

Because I like articles that make me go, “What?” I dove into an article in “Aeon” recently that made the case that time is an object. Since I’m still trying to wrap my poor head around the concept of “spacetime” I confess I have no ability to even begin to explain what I read. What I did take from that article is the idea that evolution is necessary for things to come into being and the evolutionary principle demands we recognize time as an object rather than a mere conceptional framework by...

  • Stay Alert in 2024!

    Dave Carroll|Jan 4, 2024

The following is an article I wrote for the January 8, 2015, paper. Although the names of some politicians may have changed, the deficit number and pork spending has sky-rocketed, and my main points are still valid I think. I hope that the people of this country will wake up and step up to the plate at the voting booth, and many will run for office. We are being led to slaughter by these lifetime politicians. A new year is upon us, and I hope that for you and your family it will be a good year. I hope you will grow closer together. I hope your...

HAPPY NEW YEAR! Starting off our new year with some late news from December. The Ulm Pinochle Club had a great cookie exchange and games at Mary's house. We are looking forward to our January game on the 8th. Lets start out January with some birthday wishes: Penny Palm Bucher, 1st; Josh Herman, 2nd; Bill...

  • Lady Badgers' December Games

Coach Jeff Mortag, Photos by Ray Castellanos|Jan 4, 2024

On December 19 the Shelby Coyotes came to Cascade and played a tough game, resulting in a 42-28 loss for the Badgers. The Badgers did pound the board and outrebounded the Coyotes 43-35 and had 6 assists to their 0. Unfortunately, the Badgers were outshot from long range by 18 points, that was the difference in the game. The Badgers did use great hustle to keep it close 20-12 in the first half. Injuries made it tough for the Badgers for them to keep that pace. Aubrey Hammett did dominate the...

  • The Brooklyn Bridge and Emily

Nancy Royan, Librarian, Wedsworth Memorial Library|Jan 4, 2024

Imagine the Brooklyn bridge being famous because a rooster was one of the first to cross! When the Brooklyn Bridge was completed after fourteen years of construction, the first to cross was Emily Warren Roebling by carriage. She carried a live rooster as a sign of victory. So why did Emily Roebling carry a rooster across the Brooklyn Bridge? Emily considered that moment of being the first person to cross the bridge as her ‘Ruby Shoe Moment.’ She laughed as “she looked down at the white rooster in her lap. She was riding across the Brook...
