Two Badger football players have received All-Conference recognition from the coaches and administrators in the South Central Conference. Every year, the conference coaches, along with athletic directors, get together after the regular season to make All-Conference selections. The basic structure is that other teams vote for the Athletes, and schools may support and lobby for, but are not allowed to vote for their own players. This year, Caiden Sekuterski received 2nd Team All-Conference honors...

  • Along the Way...

    Edward Martin|Nov 16, 2023

When this is published we’ll be a week away from Thanksgiving. As I’ve said often, it’s my favorite holiday. I’m sure for some of you, that’s not true. Some folks don’t like Thanksgiving, of course, those same people probably dislike puppies, kittens, fall foliage, and springtime and, are obviously, tastebud deficient. Just kidding. Some folks have legitimate reasons for not caring for Thanksgiving, or any particular holiday. Some folks honestly don’t feel like they have anything for which to...

  • It's Not Too Late For Some Social Change

    Dave Carroll|Nov 16, 2023

This fall we have had some wonderful weather in my opinion. I guess we could have had a bit more snow, it definitely helps for hunting. But these warmer days have been quite enjoyable. Not having to drive in icy and wintery conditions is good. But we know the time is coming when winter will settle in and we will be shoveling, plowing and slipping on the ice! Winter is inevitable. It will come and we will survive. We really are guaranteed to have it due to where we live. It is a result of our decision to live in western Montana. In getting...

  • Marriage, Divorce & Renewal, Part III

    Norm Miller, Montana Christian College|Nov 16, 2023

Unable to find a remedy, I let go of the steering wheel — both hands. I grabbed the door handle with my left hand and the safety belt clasp with my right. I had every intent of jumping. A nanosecond of doubt flashed a vision of me slipping when I jumped and the truck rolling over me. As it turns out, that’s exactly what would have happened. I better make the jump a good one. Literally, as muscles flexed to execute my escape, miraculously the truck turned away from the edge of disaster and back toward the road. I grabbed the wheel with both han...

  • How I Met Presidential Candidate Tim Scott (Sorta)

    Ray Castellanos, Courier Reporter|Nov 16, 2023

We went down to Texas at the end of October to catch a Dallas Cowboys football game. My daughter, Melody, and her family paid for our trip down South to include that game, plus a Maverick's basketball game, and a night at the theatre to catch the musical "The Little Shop of Horrors" at the iconic Majestic Theatre in downtown Dallas. We stayed at the Westin on La Colima St. There was a Men's Conference taking place at the hotel, and I thought I saw a familiar face. Was that who I thought it was?...

    Kim Boettger|Nov 16, 2023

Bulk Water Hearing The Hearing took place to discuss the increase of the bulk water dispenser from $1.50 for175 gallons to $2.00 for 175 gallons. According to Mayor Moore: “We did a lot of math and as far as we can tell the $2.00/175 gal is about what most residents are paying. The bulk water guys were getting water cheaper than the people who live here. So, we’re just trying to get it equalized. No more, no less.” Community members commented that the last time the bulk water was discussed, Joe Voss commented (with regard to Prairie Water...

    Nancy Royan|Nov 16, 2023

Have you ever wondered why Montana looks the way it is?? Why do we have that funny western border? Then Idaho looks a bit weird in itself. Why that panhandle? Some maintain that Montana stole part of Idaho way back when. In 1863 President Lincoln sent well-respected lawyer Sidney Edgerton to the Idaho Territory as Chief Justice. He immediately recognized that the remote gold fields would be extremely valuable to the Union and the gold camps needed their own territorial government. He convinced Congress in May of 1864 to create the Montana...
