On to Divisionals

Lady Badgers Take 2nd at District

February 22, 2024

The Lady Badgers went to Shelby for the District Tournament for a right to move on to Divisionals. The Badgers went in as the number one seed and got a bye for the first game. The Badgers first game was a feisty Heart Butte Warriors team. The Badgers took a 30-22 halftime lead in a strong second quarter. The Badgers limited the Warriors to 4 points in the third quarter. As usual, the Badgers never let up and won the game 51-38 As a team the Badgers had 29 total rebounds. They also were unselfish by dishing out 12 assists and had 11 steals. The Badgers were led defensively by Braedyn Johnson. She continued to shut down her opponent. Aubrey Hamlett and Kyleigh Sivertsen controlled the inside with their rebounding (7 each)and timely scoring. Ashlyn Korst came off the bench and hit two huge three-point shots to increase the lead. Korst finished with 9 points. Sophia Mortag ran the offense with great passing and ball handling. She had 4 assists and 4 steals. Mortag also finished with 12 points. Mackenzie Hauk also played amazing defense and led the Badgers in scoring with 19 points, including 9-10 from the line.

Lady Badgers Vs. Heart Butte

With the win, the Lady Badgers met up with Augusta in the championship game. These ladies played hard the entire game, but unfortunately came up short. It was one of those games shots just would not fall. Good shots were taken, but it was just one of those nights. Defensively, they held Augusta to 22 points in the final three quarters. Aubrey Hamlett did shoot 5 for 11 from the field. Kyleigh Sivertsen held Augusta post player to 2 points for the whole game.(In fact, in all three games for the season, Sivertsen held the post just those 2 points). Braedyn Johnson had 11 rebounds while, as usual, playing tough defense. Ashlyn Korst was instant offense of the bench again scoring a couple of buckets immediately coming off the bench. Sophia led the team in scoring with 11 points, and Mackenzie Hauk led the team in rebounding with 12 rebounds. This team never gave up and rebounded hard and finished as a team with 40 rebounds, including 18 offensive rebounds. While it was not the final we wanted, I could not be more proud of these girls; even down 20-6 in the first quarter, they played extremely hard. They never give up and always play to the buzzer. The major thing is the Cascade Badgers move on to the Divisional and play Fort Benton on Thursday night 7:00 at the Four Seasons Arena. Please come out and support the Lady Badgers.
