The Lady Badgers had a busy weekend playing three games. As usual, all the girls showed great hustle and toughness. While they are always the smaller team, they fight for every rebound and play tough man-to-man defense. In the first game, the Badgers traveled to Shelby to play the Class B Coyotes who are in third place in their district. The Badgers started fast and led most of the first half, leading 26-21 at halftime. The rest of the game was a back-and-forth game. With Badgers leading by 2 with 15 seconds left, Shelby made a three-point shot with 9 seconds left, Cascade losing 46-45. While it was a tough loss, it was a great experience playing a tough Class B school. To show how much these girls have improved, we lost to the same team by 18 points at home earlier this year. The Badgers did have one of their better shooting days, nailing 40% of their field goals, dishing out 10 assists, and getting 14 steals. Friday the Simms Tigers came to town with first place in the district on the line. The Badgers started slow and were down by as much as 10 points in the first quarter. The score at the end of that quarter was 14-9, Simms. However, this team never gives up and used pressure defense, hustle rebounding, and unselfish passing to tie it up 20-20 at halftime. In the second half, the Lady Badgers used their athleticism and fast-paced basketball to wear out the Tigers and win the game 53-36. A determined Badger team held Simms to 2 points in the fourth quarter. The Badgers out-rebounded a much taller Simms team 32-30, shot 40 percent from the field, and held the Tigers to 25% from the field. The game extended the Badgers district winning streak to 19 games. A special mention to the JV girls who lost by 30 points the first time they played Simms. This time around, with both teams being the same, the girls won by 2!

Saturday afternoon a tired, yet determined Lady Badgers team traveled to Highwood to play the 4 seed in 9C, Winnett-Grass Range for an out-of-conference game. The Badgers came out with hot shooting and took a 19-13 lead in the first quarter. A feisty WGR team made it a game at halftime, with Cascade leading 33-31. In the second half, the Badgers used their feisty defense and great shooting to pull out an impressive win against a tough WGR team with a final of 60-45. As a team, the Badgers had 22 assists. That might be the most as a team I have seen for Cascade. It shows how unselfish this team is. The Badgers had 10 steals as a team, which led to many of the team's points.
