What was supposed to be a very busy week of Badger basketball turned into a slow one. The low temperatures forced Valier and Power to postpone our weekend contests until later dates. However, the Badgers did see the court earlier in the week before the weather turned.
Monday night the Badgers welcomed Belt for a quick JV contest. The game proved to be competitive and a great addition to our schedule. After the 1st quarter the Badgers enjoyed a 9-8 advantage, but we widened the gap with a 17-point 2nd quarter and entered the half time break up 26-15. After another high scoring quarter, the Badgers were in control and all starters were on the bench when the Husky squad started a comeback that came up short and saw the Badgers end the game with a 44-41 victory.
Trent Lane had his 3rd double double of the season as he finished with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Ian Mckamey saw his first JV action of the year and contributed 12 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals. Lane Ethridge scored 7, Josh Creveling scored 5 and Peyton Hauk added 6 points and 6 rebounds.
Tuesday the Badgers loaded up and traveled to Simms to take on the Tigers. The JV squad was up first and, like the previous night, the game started close with the Badgers closing the 1st quarter up 10-8. Once again, a big 2nd quarter stretched the lead to 11 going into halftime. The Badgers learned from the previous night and would not allow any comeback in this one as they won each quarter en route to a 60-31 win.
Conner Mann led the scoring with 12. Ian Mckamey added 11 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Tanner Jacobs had his best night of the season, hitting two 3-point shots and finishing with 10 points. Deyton Raether had a great game on the boards finishing with 8 rebounds and Martin Bodnar got to the foul line for the first time and made 1 of 2 to get on the scoring list. We also had some great all-around performances from Trent Lane and Peyton Hauk. Trent had 8 points, 7 rebounds and 5 steals and Peyton added 6 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists.
The victories put the JV record at 7-1 for the season.
Tuesday night's Varsity contest ended up as our last game of the week and the top Badger squad did not disappoint. A great defensive night saw the Badgers hold the Tigers to 27 total points including a 3-point 1st quarter and a 4-point 3rd quarter. In the end it added up to a 56-27 win and pushed the Varsity record to 6-1(4-0 conference).
Kaden Jorgenson and Brent Ethridge led the scoring with 15 each. Jorgenson added 9 rebounds and Ethridge logged his 2nd double double by pulling in 13 rebounds of his own. Tyler Lane had a big impact with 9 points, 10 rebounds and 6 blocked shots. Gavin Gilham had 8 points and 6 rebounds and Caiden Sekuterski added 7 points and 5 boards. The Badger bench saw some quality minutes in the contest. Seth Mckamey scored a bucket and made some nice passes from the post, Ian Mckamey grabbed 5 rebounds, and Lane Ethridge added 3 assists.
The season continues for the Badgers with a couple games at home this weekend. We will host Big Sandy on Friday, January 19th and Sunburst visits Saturday, January 20th.
