Impatience and Evil

It has been noted for many years that television has contributed to our being a very impatient people. We have been accustomed to very difficult problems being solved in a half or an hour-long show. We watch movies in which the world is saved from catastrophe in under two hours max.

The Internet has made that tendency worse. Want to get information? It’s only a click away. Want something? No need to even drive to Great Falls, you can order online and it will be at your doorstep, assuming the delivery driver can figure out Cascade streets, in a few days.

Unfortunately, we tend to apply the same impatience to real life problems that are not going to be solved by some superhero swooping in or some clever twist of fate in hours, days, or even months. Some problems just don’t go away so easily.

It has been almost ten years since Russia invaded, occupied and annexed Crimea. Since, they have steadily encroached on Ukrainian sovereignty over and over prior to the outright invasion and war still going on.

Massive war crimes have been committed. Innocent men, women, and children have been murdered. Rape, torture, and kidnapping have been commonplace. Thousands of Ukrainian children are still missing in Russia. Ukraine has, quite rightfully, fought back but Russia has vast resources and an utter disregard for law or morality.

We like to think, again thanks to television, movies, and books, that the good guys almost always win. That is fiction. The good guys win only when the bad guys are defeated. It is beyond disgusting that some people, including elected officials, are taking the attitude that, “This has gone on too long. We don’t want to help anymore.” Evidently for some, justice and simple human decency are not terribly important.

Likewise, Jews have been unjustly attacked for thousands of years. Israel is surrounded by millions who would like it wiped off the map. Hamas invaded, murdered, raped, tortured, kidnapped but we hear spineless and craven individuals justify their horrors and blame Israel for defending itself. Gaza has had years and years to choose governance by someone other than bloodthirsty terrorists but they chose not to.

Of course, we feel sorry for innocents who die in war. The firebombing of Dresden in World War II was a horror in which innocent people died. No one in their right mind however bemoans the destruction of the Nazis and their unspeakable atrocities.

Those who choose war, those who stand by and allow their children to be indoctrinated with hatred toward another group, get caught up in the inevitable death and destruction that follows.

Ukraine and Israel deserve all the support we can supply. If we don’t, rest assured Taiwan will be next and, after that, someone else who evil chooses to visit.

Sadly, we have some vicious, bloodthirsty, members of humanity who willingly destroy all who simply seek to live in peace. If they are not stopped it only gets worse and spreads.
